Text and Numbers

It’s amazing how even the smallest details can affect the way we look at the world. Even down the style of font. It gives a certain essence while we make subconscious connections and associates ideas in our minds.

Inspirations: Barr Co.

Barr Co. reminds us of the hidden away nostalgia of Missouri caverns and slower times. Here lives memories of apothecaries and mom & pop general stores; reusable containers, quality products and the expected detailing of craftsmanship. It embodies the collection of antiques we marveled over in our grandparents and great-grandparents basements; it survives from the days that we churned butter by hand, scrubbed clothes with washboards and bought tobacco by the rope.

The Color Green

Bits of purple emerge from the center bringing a wonderful touch of color to the plant.

Plant life is currently transitioning from summer to fall plants, which for a week or two is leaving gardens slightly dull from the lack of vibrant color. But alas, behold the amazing color green! It is everywhere and astounding in its own color variation. Don’t be afraid of green in your plant selection. In all actuality, it is the sign of plant life and regeneration. Embrace foliage, like the hosta. Or for the truly adventurous, use ornamental cabbage; early fall is this plant’s day to shine.

Even though late summer storms periodically torment the afternoons, they are more than welcome after this drought-ridden summer. Rain is feeding thirsty plants and lush greens radiates in each garden. As a melancholy grey encompasses the air and sky, it only makes the green of each newly revived plant pop. One can’t help but enjoy the storms as drop after drop of water gracefully falls off each leaf on to the ground below.

We love the book Chicks With Guns, available in our St. Louis shop. The most beautiful photography, and just a cool and quirky concept. Each page has a portrait of a female with her gun and the opposite page tells her story. A perfect compliment to the book are these great gun bottle openers. A great conversation piece when entertaining with friends.

Woodland Spring

Photos found the awakening of spring while hiking through the family farm.  The beauty of nature is inspirational.   Moss with its velvety texture and fresh earthy fragrance is a natural companion to the delicate fronds and woodsy citrus notes of Fern.  Moss is on sale during the month of March on  www.khalldesigns.com  Fern will be on sale for the Month of April on www.simpatico-home.com

Ready for Spring

It is so beautiful outside! I want to be sitting on the beach with this landscape in front of me.                                                                                                    Ambergris is my new favorite springtime scent.

k. hall designs Spring Store Reset

We painted our walls shimmering white for spring. The store looks elegant and bright. We love the glow of the lighting coming in from the windows behind the mirrors.  We updated  and re-designed store, bringing in romantic women’s clothing and gilded and rustic home accessories from the Altanta and New York shows. The look is very city meets country.

Inspiration

For each of our Simpatico scents, we have been inspired by an antique book page. The new Ambergris may be my favorite. This historic scent is sweet, yet musky and reminds me of the beach; I personally think it is a sensual scent for men or women. Here is the antique book page that inspired us.
